wine tours napa

The Napa Valley is world renowned for producing award-winning wines. Because of its unique geography, Napa County is divided into specific regions, denoted by the term AVA (American Viticulture Area).
These individual regions are separated on the basis of the inherent characteristics of the soil and climate. There are many subtleties that can make an AVA better suited for another cab and chardonnay.
In 1850, Thomas Rutherford recognized the subtleties of a parcel of land Bordeaux seemed unproven. Subsequently planted the first vineyards in what was destined to become the Rutherford AVA. History floors laid the foundations Rutherford for the Napa Valley to become a world leader in wine production.
When Phylloxera infested the Napa Valley in the nineteenth century, Frenchman Georges Latour was on the frontline in the battle for the survival of Napa's vineyards. de Latour became the first person to import rootstocks phylloxera resistant vines for Rutherford. This was a pivotal event in the history of Napa Valley, and laid the foundations for a prosperous future viticulture.
Pronounced (Phil  Â-Ox-Erra), this aphid-like insect lives its parasitic lifecycle on vine rootstocks. Its introduction was the largest of all the destruction in the sale of vineyards californiae's history. Latour's import of root stocks that were not susceptible to phylloxera effectively save the Napa Valley and propelled De Latour in the annals of history.
In addition, De Latour founded Inglenook winery, which helped the Napa Valley gain recognition world wide. Inglenook was the first winery to consistently win gold medals for its Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford. Many experts still believe that the 1941 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is the best wine ever produced in the Napa Valley. But more important, De Latour brought a young Frenchman named Andre Tchelistcheff. As Latour's prot © gà ©, Tchelistcheff became a legend himself, elevating Rutherford into uncharted territory.
Tchelistcheff brought new world viticulture and techniques that revolutionized winemaking in Napa Valley wine. It Tchelistcheff who coined the term  "Rutherford dust," and for many this a "dust" represents the manifestation of excellence. Before his untimely death, Tchelistcheff said a "Rutherford Dust Takes Cabernet. grow big "While other successful AVA grow Cab, Rutherford is by far the main producing region of Napa Valley cab.
The most Rutherford AVA important is your  "dust.Â" Synonymous with soil, a Rutherford "dust" is as unique as the wine produced from this AVA. The crème of the crème of Rutherford wine comes from a narrow strip of land between the western mountains and the valley. This area is known affectionately and Section of Rutherford, and the vineyards of this region produce grapes with unmatched flavor and intensity.
The intensity of Rutherford's grapes provides a challenge even for the most experienced winemakers. But Caymus Vineyards has mastered the production equation for winning Cabs. As one of the major wineries in Rutherford, Vineyards Caymus a leader in the production of Cabernet. '1990 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon was voted a "wine of the Year" in 1994 by Wine Spectator. This was just one of many awards and honors this Rutherford winery has enjoyed over the years, the Caymus Vineyard Wine of some of the most wanted in the Napa Valley.
It's more than Rutherford's  "dust" that makes this region ideal for the production of cabinets world class. The warm day-time temperature dries and warms the soil, leading to grapes with more concentrated flavors and more developed tannins. This contributes the complexity of the cockpit of Rutherford, but can be overwhelming when consumed young. The young, tannic Rutherford Cab can be softened with time, revealing the true nature of the tenants expected.
Wine embodies the heart and soul of the winemaker. Consequently, it takes more than perfect growing conditions to produce premium quality wines, experience and expertise of the winemaker is so important. Because the fruit that Rutherford Vineyards produce many of the world's major wine producers are attracted to this historic region. Rutherford Vintners Many come to follow in the footsteps of Napa Valley legend Andre Tchelistcheff.
The Tchelistcheff effects are still being felt through the techniques applied in the vineyards of Beaulieu. As flagship of the winery in Rutherford, BV continues to build on its history by producing award-winning story cabins Reserve. Their latest Reserve Cab received 92 points from Wine Spectator. Along with producing premium quality wines, BV has one of the best tasting rooms in Napa Valley. This makes the experience of tasting their opulent wines even better.
The Rutherford AVA has more to offer than historic vineyards and wineries. The smaller wineries provide a more personal, intimate experience than large ones, more commercial counterparts. Along with this, some of the small, family owned wineries produce some of the best wines from Rutherford. Rutherford Grove Winery and Vineyards Sullivan was voted the "five small wineries to visit in the Napa Valley" by the Wall Street Journal.
The combination of vibrant wines and beautiful tasting rooms, Rutherford one of the top destinations among wine connoisseurs. Although only one of many in the AVA Napa Valley, could spend the entire trip in this historic region. For more visiting Napa, visiting Rutherford is a necessity.
Ben Bicais lives in the Napa Valley and has written several articles about Rutherford Wineries.
