tours france castle
Looking for luxury, opulent Chateaux in France?
I take my mother to France in September '08. As I am planning now, will one day 10 days holiday, half the time spent at the castle and go from there (I will rent a car) and then ends up in Paris for the second half. My accommodations in Paris are all set. As a special treat, I would like to make our stay in one of the, if not * the * best palace in the country. The only regions I do not care are those in the far south. If you have a recommendation or two, please tell me as much as possible, especially if you've been there. Link to the site? Went a big castle? What were the reasons, how? The common spaces? The rooms? Do the rooms have toilets and bathrooms / shower bath? How was the staff? The food? etc. sites around? I promise to read all the answers and I will reward a best answer. I realize this will be costly, but my mom deserves it (and me too)!
Thanks – it is much appreciated!
Last year we spent a night at Château de Ternay near the Loire Valley with the Count and Countess Caroline of Ternay Loïc: http://www.chateau-de-ternay.com/pages/indexpag.html was near the magnificent abbey of Fontevraud, where they are Richard the Lionheart buried their parents and Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II. It is also near the historic medieval town of Chinon, overlooking the Loire and of course, a little farther east is all the famous Valley of the castles of the Loire. The castle appears on a website that lists http://www.bienvenueauchateau.com/ called B & B the castles located in the district of northwestern France. It is a beautiful 15th century castle and our room had antique furniture and is ultra-modern private bathroom (multi-jet shower fantasy, but no bath, maybe some of your other rooms have baths). The common room was where the hosts dining-room/lounge share a glass of champagne with you when you come and talk about their ancestors and history of the castle. There was also a chapel at the base, we have visited, and the horses and dogs and cats. But I would not call it luxury. Most owners of the castle can not afford to live in luxury, they do B & B to help pay for the maintenance of a castle that has been in the family for centuries. Our hosts were made jeans and sweaters and the meals themselves. There was no staff except for bare 12 years of age counts for little I knew when he was on his way to his grandfather's garden, basket in hand, to pick pears for dessert for dinner! If you want luxury service and comforts, seek a higher price range or stay in a castle-hotel. But the reception is not as hot as with a family business stay in the castle. We like being in a Château occasionally, because for us it is very affordable (70 € to 120 € / night) way to stay in beautiful and historic at the same time support the conservation of our cultural heritage. If you want something more luxurious, has plenty of castles to choose from. Since we have a passion for castles, that he had compiled a list of websites that the list of castles that provide accommodation (either rental or B & B) so you can browse through them: http://www.au-chateau.com/ http://www.chateaux-story.com/fr/ http://www.flv. fr / location http://www.terrebretagne.com/fr-home.html http://www.abritel.fr Chateau.htm http://www.bellavista-villas.com/ http://www.vacances-en-perigord.com/location-manoir-dordogne.htm -et-chateaux.com/locations.php http://www.likhom.com/ http://www.maisons http: / / Disclaimer: Domain owner and Sedo maintain http://www.bellesmaisonsalouer.com/bien/liste.php http:// -en-france.fr/cottage-rental-dordogne.htm http://www.7enlocation.com/fr/location-chateaux-vacances/ www.chateaux-france.com/jumilhac/index.phtml? l = fr http://www.holiday-chateau.com/ http:// http://www.chateauxcountry.com/index.php?lang=fr www.vmf.net / home.php http://www.demeure-historique.org/decouverte_bassenormandie.html The French Department which has the largest number of castles is slightly to the south west Dordogne France. It is famous for its prehistoric sites such as Lascaux cave paintings. The city of Sarlat really worth a visit (one of the most charming medieval towns of France) and the landscapes are beautiful but not too well to the south. It's a sweet idea to offer this his mom. But it need not be as expensive as you might think. Maybe your mom can enjoy a more relaxed and comfortable rather than stuffy in one place with a large number of staff and luxury. But it's you and your tastes. For Châteaux-hotels, as http://www.chateaucolbert.com/ for example, the visit (not all hotels are castles though): http://www.relaischateaux.com/page.php3?lang=en http: / / www.chateauxhotels.com/contact/chf_FR.php?langue=EN http://www.chateauxdemeures.fr / IIST to everywhere you should be able to find what suits your taste and budget. Enjoy your stay in France!
