Live Music: Europe 2010 $11.04 The record is a document of the fantastic European tour from 2010. While 2003?s Volume 4 and the seven-month tour that followed that brilliant record featured the reunion of the entire original, iconic Joe Jackson Band from the late 70s, the follow-up, 2008?s Rain, was made with three of those four members: Jackson (vocals and keyboards), Graham Maby (bass/vocals) and Dave Houghton (drums/vocals). This is the band that appears on Live Music, which is made up of 12 tracks culled from board recordings from a variety of cities. Jackson approaches the live setting with a very different mindset than he does his studio recordings. For that reason, his tours are always must-see events as the songs take new shape and evolve over time. His writing leaves much room for re-interpretation and he derives great pleasure from bursting the boundaries and exploring new avenues and readings of his own work. The 2008/09 tours were no different, as it featured a piano-based trio without guitar. Jackson always enjoys the energy that an audience brings to the creative process and he often likes to authenticate the experience by releasing a live record as a historical document of his ideas. Live Music will be the sixth live record in his career. His first was the groundbreaking Big World in 1986, which was all new songs recorded in front of an audience. The second was Live 1980 – 1986, which was a double album featuring songs from every phase of his career up to that point. The third was 2000?s Summer in the City: Live in New York, which was also a trio record, though that one featured more recent alum Gary Burke on drums. Next was 2001?s Two Rainy Nights, released after the Night and Day II tour, and the most recent was 2004?s Afterlife, which documented the Volume 4 performances. Live Music features nine Jackson classics and three covers: The Beatles’ “Girl,” David Bowie’s “Scary Monsters” and Ian Dury’s “Inbetweenies.” The tracks are heard as they were performed. There aren’t any fixes, overdubs or corrections. |

Martin of Tours $14.95 Regine Pernoud, the highly acclaimed French medieval historian, and author of best-selling titles on Joan of Arc and Hildegard of Bingen, as well as the book Those Terrible Middle Ages , presents an enlightening biography of one of France’s most revered saints, and a man whose impact on France, and Europe, continues to this day. ‘ ‘Martin of Tours lived in the 4th century, at that great turning point in history when the Roman Empire fell and the Church took charge in the West. He left a successful career in the military life to become a monk, and later a Bishop who traveled extensively, evangelizing the countryside and creating that particular sort of community life in a village that is now called a “parish”. More than four hundred towns and some four thousand parishes in France are named after St. Martin. The term “chapel” is derived from the actual church where pilgrims venerate Martin’s “cape” or cloak. ‘Martin of Tours was a servant of the common man, as well as the nobility, and a very humble man who responded to the needs of his times and opened up vast perspectives for ordinary, everyday life. Given the crisis of the Christian Faith now facing France and all of Europe, the story of this soldier and great apostle and Christian evangelist is a timely one indeed. ‘ |

Music in Early Christian Literature $44 “This book provides a collection of some 400 passages on music from early Christian literature – New Testament to c. 450 AD – newly translated from the original Greek, Latin, and Syriac. As there are no musical sources of the period, music historians must rely upon remarks about music in literary sources to gain some knowledge of early Christian liturgical music. This volume makes a large and representative collection of the material conveniently available. The passages are arranged chronologically and regionally in eleven chapters with brief commentary. An introduction sets out the major subjects and themes of the original source material.” |

travel tours young adults

Im gonna be 21 soon and I just want to see the world?
my dream is to travel and none of my friends are willing to save money .. and i dont want go completely on my own … thats just ridiculously dangerous. Are there legitimate good tour groups for young adults like me?? I am a college student studying journalism and I'm looking to go somewhere that would be educational and where I can have an ass kick your time lol what are the very good groups and places that are safe, legitimate, often completely break the bank, and something that can have an incredible experience ….? thanks =)
If you are willing to be confined to an area, is available on bus tours or About Contiki – are group travel. I personally do not like it when touring. I have traveled to China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. I recently went to Italy and France by myself for 19 days. If you travel through the hostel, you are guaranteed to meet new people to hang out with each night. Everyone in these places seem to have good vibes and I get along great. If you're in super-tourist destinations may also be known random people there. For example, in the Louvre in Paris, I met a girl standing up in front of me and we ended up hanging out all day. Or, in Chiang Mai, Thailand our cooking instructor got us a rental agreement on a driver and car to go to the mountain of Doi Ithanop. It can be very intimidating to travel on their own however. Asia was always in a group and I was grateful for it. It was scary at times, when street vendors or taxi drivers that followed about 10 minutes trying to badger in use their services, but said no and sometimes 15. I felt safer in Europe only because at least I had the opportunity to mingle, but I liked much less in Europe. Without But in every country and city you can always find a tour group that offers something in English, so you can meet people that way. Asia is undoubtedly a wonderful place to visit if you're young because it is so ridiculously cheap. I was in Thailand for 10 days and spent less than $ 300 (including train and bus shelters, food, souvenirs, etc.) As for the person who recommended against Thailand, do not listen to them. Yes, it's super touristy but if you avoid the South (where all the beaches and resorts are) you can get an authentic taste of the country. I suggest to the north to Sukhothai and Chiang Mai. (Chiang Mai was my favorite city in Thailand.)
