Travel tips for Italy?
I have 16 days to travel around Italy with her husband and three children aged 17, 15 & 10. I want to travel from Rome to Florence (or vice versa) and I want to know how long we stay in each (major) city to see all the major sites w / o wasting time. Should we drive around to save money? Should we find a central location for sleeping, kitchen, shower, etc. and venture from there all day? The cost is not a huge problem, but we're on a budget (I do not know how yet). Hostels are not an option with children with us. I am not that concerned w / luxury, pampering, so only the comfort, convenience, privacy, etc. We do not mind most meals cooking "at home". We are not ordinary types of tourism such as freedom to do what we want to know the schedules, visits, etc. Any suggestions on hotels, rental car, good places to see, best time to travel, do and don'ts, Kid Friendly, precautions and others. Thank you for all the ideas you have!
When we speak of "hostels" In Europe they are not talking about dormitories – those who are " hostels. A hostel is a low budget accommodation, like a pension, a modest, motel-like place, usually private, clean, comfortable, with doors that lock, and you have no foreigners entering your room … and, btw, even the hostels have family rooms in some places. That actually sounds like an inn is exactly what you should look. They too, are often right in the city centers, so they tend to be cheap, clean and convenient. They do not really motels in Europe, because nobody uses the cars the way we Americans. If you that much, you might want to check the pipe, but remember that gasoline in Europe is about $ 4 – 7US per gallon … Oh, wait, how our gas prices go … is not that much!
But then you have to think about parking and getting in and out of lots and finding your way around cities, and parking fees for many! I paid about 30 – 40 € / day in Spain last year. However, I will probably train with, they are fast, clean and convenient and simple to use. In addition to full pension / where the hostel you could Look into apartments. They are generally clean and can be centralized. Even if you only cook breakfast, they can be perfect For this and more and more comfortable than many rooms. Just search the city in question, and there should be all sorts of options for housing. I'd probably use the two cities as a port and exploring some of the smaller cities outside now. I think renting a bike to the Tuscan countryside is a great idea! I do not know how far you can push the smaller boy, though. I would definitely try to spend a week in each city, using Florence as a home base for exploring Tuscany. You do not really need more than two days in Florence to see the foundations, but a whole week to Rome, for sure. (Oh, and you do not want to be taken to Rome to ALL! They are reputed to be the Worst drivers in the world for a reason … red lights, etc. are considered as suggestions, and the last thing you want is to stay stuck in one of these roundabouts huge, without knowing where to get off. If you decide to rent, do not take the car in the city, parking outside the central part of the city, both near a bus stop or subway station and a motorway, this way you avoid driving in the city.)
